Mission and Objectives

Mission

إِنَّ هَذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ

“Indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.” (Quran 21:92)

Islamic Community Outreach Services is a not-for-profit organization with the primary aim of seeking the pleasure of Allah (SWT) by providing Muslim services to the Ithaca community and authentically representing Islam in accordance with the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). We aim to provide an inclusive and open environment that encourages people of all backgrounds and levels of faith to gather, discuss, learn, and practice the fundamental teachings of Islam as transmitted from Prophet Muhammad (SAW) through his sahabah (companions) to contemporary scholars.

Objectives

The objectives for the organization are as follows:

  1. Establish services for the Muslims of Ithaca
  2. Unite the Muslims of Ithaca
  3. Positively impact the surrounding Ithaca community
  4. Educate the Ithaca community about Islam

The objectives will be accomplished in the short term by:

  1. Providing a space for Muslims to gather
  2. Establishing daily prayers – the reward for prayer in jamaat (congregation) is 25-27 times more and the effect of prayer in jamaat (congregation) is that it develops the bonds of brotherhood
  3. Holding regular classes for Muslim youth – recruit qualified teachers to lead and to develop the syllabuses for these classes
  4. Holding regular men’s halaqahs and women’s halaqahs
  5. Pursuing outreach opportunities and inviting non-Muslims to meet us and join us for conversations about Islam
  6. Developing community service opportunities for Muslims to help the surrounding community
  7. Inviting local scholars to give talks on Islamic topics
  8. Involving as many members of the Muslim community in our programs and services as we can

The goals will be accomplished in the long term by:

  1. Providing essential Muslim services that are lacking in the community
  2. Networking with churches and other places of worship for purpose of interfaith dialogue
  3. Collaborating with other people in the Ithaca community in events that serve a common goal or purpose
  4. Connecting the Muslims of Ithaca with the scholars and resources of surrounding Muslim communities
